Individual Psychological Counseling in Izmir

Individual psychological counseling in Izmir is a process in which you can explore difficulties in your life, your relationships with yourself and others, and patterns that recur over time together with a psychological counselor.

Individual psychological counseling takes place within a professional relationship in which personal difficulties, relationships, and areas of change can be explored.

I provide individual psychological counseling in Izmir for adults in person at my office in Karşıyaka, Izmir, and online. My approach is primarily informed by psychoanalytic theories of psychotherapy and the Masterson Approach.

What Can Be Explored in Psychological Counseling?

People seek psychological counseling for different reasons. Sometimes a particular life event or difficulty in a relationship leads someone to begin counseling. At other times, it may be a situation that has been recurring for a long time, or a sense of discomfort that is not yet easy to describe.

Individual counseling can provide a space to explore relationships with oneself and others, recurring relational patterns, conflicts, and how these may have developed over time.

The focus of counseling may also develop over time. Work that begins with a particular relationship, decision, or difficult experience may gradually bring attention to connections with other relationships or recurring experiences in a person’s life. It is therefore not necessary for every subject of the work to be clearly defined before counseling begins.

Approach

My work draws on psychoanalytic theories of psychotherapy. Within this approach, attention can be given not only to the events a person describes, but also to how they experience them, the ways they relate to themselves and others, and patterns that emerge over the course of counseling.

Psychoanalytic and psychodynamic approaches involve listening not only to the content of what has happened, but also to the ways in which experiences are described and lived.

This does not mean assigning predetermined explanations to a person’s experiences. What an experience means for that particular person, the circumstances in which certain difficulties recur, and how different experiences may be connected can be explored during the counseling process. Questions, clarification, making connections, and interpretation may all form part of this work when appropriate.

The counseling relationship itself may also become relevant to the work. Feelings, expectations, or ways of relating that emerge during sessions can sometimes provide an opportunity to consider patterns that also appear elsewhere in a person’s life. In this sense, sessions provide a space not only to describe experiences outside counseling, but also to examine certain relational patterns more closely as they emerge.

Psychological counseling is not approached as a standardized program directed toward a single predetermined outcome. The content and course of the work develop in relation to what the person brings and what emerges during the process.
